This lecture provides electrologists with a clinical and empathetic framework for understanding, identifying, and treating various types of excessive hair growth. Participants will learn to differentiate between hirsutism, hypertrichosis, and superfluous hair through medical, hormonal, and contextual assessment. The course integrates anatomy, endocrinology, and psychology with practical electrology treatment planning, empowering practitioners to recognize when to treat, when to refer, and how to communicate sensitively with clients who may be struggling with visible or hormonally driven hair growth.

This presentation will explore electrolysis as the only FDA-recognized method of permanent hair removal, examining its efficacy, safety, and clinical applications. While laser hair removal (LHR) has gained popularity for rapid bulk reduction, its limitations and risks highlight the unique and essential role of electrolysis in both aesthetic and medically necessary care. Drawing on a comprehensive literature review, this session highlights technological innovations, compares electrolysis with laser modalities, and emphasizes the need for standardized training and research to advance industry legitimacy.
